We arrived at the venue at 20 past 2, and joined the group of ten people waiting in front of the entrance. I was surprised about the lack of people; from LP concerts I know that you have to get there VERY early, in order to be one of the first 10. It was only my best friend ~littleJulchen and me, so we first got to know the other girls. One of them was a huge Billy Talent fan, she'd been to a few concerts and knew basically everything, and she was the one who told us that she met Aaron, the drummer on the opposite site of the venue where the busses were. We needed only a few seconds to decide whether we wanted to look for Aaron to or not, so we went to bus but the first time we didn't meet anybody. Only security guys who chased us away. So, we walked back to our place and told the others what happened, and some of them wanted to go back again, and we decided to join them. This time we saw a guy who looked like Jon, and we were like "Is this Jon? Or not?" I was so fucking nervous! I can't remember the last time I was so damn nervous. But before we could do anything, the security guys noticed us and tried to chase us away again but luckily, it turned out to be the real Jon and he told the security guys that it was okay to him. He came to us, smiling broadly, looking so beautiful and healthy. We had a little talk, he asked us how we were doing, for how long we were already waiting for the doors to open and he told us that he had just arrived. So, we took some photos with him, my best friend did as well but I... I couldn't. I know I will blame myself one day but at that moment, I couldn't. He looked questioningly like, You wanna do a photo with me, too? But I really couldn't. Was too nervous, I don't know! Then he had to leave, he said, "So, I gotta go now, I just arrived and have to unpack."
So, we got back to our "place" and had the opportunity to listen to the whole soundcheck! We already started to sing along to the songs, which got annoying with "The Dead Can't Testify" since they started it several times but never finished the song. And they practiced "Sudden Movements" but for some reason didn't play it at the show. I don't really mind that; the song's not really a "live song".
The security guys in front of the entrance were pretty funny, as well as the ones in front of the stage. We got to stand in first row, meeh, let's say somewhere between first and second row. Right in front of Ben!
The first support act was Cancer Bats, a canadian hardcore punk band. They're a good live band, really got the crowd to jump and -for our pleasure *ironic*- mosh. But for me, it's not the music I like listening to. That's why I was pretty glad when they finished their set at around 8.40pm. Not sure about the time anymore. Well, it took about 10 minutes (felt like half an hour) until Silverstein entered the stage. And that was when the crowd started to go crazy. That was already as bad as LP, perhaps worse. Luckily, I was able to take photos but sadly, I had troubles with surviving. Silverstein are awesome live and their music is pretty good, too, my recommendation
At around 10 o'clock I think, it was time for the one and only, Billy Talent. By that time I had already lost my best friend, she felt sick 'cause of the pushing and moshing. It was really hard to keep standing on your feet, also hard to hold onto something in order to not fall to the left or right.
They opened the set with -so awesome- "The Dead Can't Testify". Ben was right in front of me, passionately singing the words of one of my favorite songs ever. I will have to thank him for this someday! During this song, I think I had several times when I had troubles with breathing. At LP concert, I call it "a big family cuddle session" but last night... that was dangerous! We had so many stupid girls in there, drunken guys and nobody really thought about the people around them. I know it's not always like that at LP concerts but... most of the time, we try to not hurt anybody and care for each other (You know, Shinoda will kick your ass otherwise!). Unfortunately, it got so messed up that a) I can't remember if they played any songs between the opening song and "This Suffering", b) which songs that would've been and c) I decided to get pulled out as well. For two reasons: I payed 34 Euros to enjoy a good concert with my best friend and not get squished to death and/or stand there, right in front of Ben without my best friend. That was no fun. Billy Talent is no fun without her. So, I got pulled out after "This Suffering" and tried to find her. After a few minutes, I found her surrounded by a few people and I was relieved to find her and that she was okay.
We spent the rest of the concert there, having loads of fun watching our favorite band performing mostly our favorite songs like "Saint Veronika", "The Ex", "Diamond on a Landmine" and of course, songs like "Fallen Leaves", "Try Honesty" and "Devil on my shoulder". My favorite moment was when Ben joked around. He said "Thank you", paused, and said "Tschüss" (that's goodbye in German
Their last song was "Red Flag". THAT was AWESOME. The background of the stage changed into a red flag -haha- and Ben later waved a red flag while singing the song. But sadly, the many people in the crowd didn't get that when he stops singing, it was their turn to sing. So with... I think it was "Red Flag", he had to explain it to the crowd. That was kinda embarrassing...
Anyways, the concert was awesome and I would go again and again and again, I'm so glad I survived and except of a hurting back, hurting shoulders, hurting feet and legs and a light headache, I'm doing pretty good!
Every time, I listen to "Rusted from the Rain", it gives me chills. Not in a negative way... it just reminds me of yesterday which was one of the best days in my life.
Thank you so much, ~littleJulchen for inviting me, for having such a great time and being able to share this experience with you! I love you!
Edit: I uploaded some photos, edited them because my camera is an asshole.
